Can Python...
#1
Hi.

Whilst I have dabbled in Python on and off over the years, I am no guru. I am, however, a FileMaker Developer with many years experience. Whilst I love Filemaker I do feel it is limited in some ways when it comes non-iOS apps, general web apps etc, so I am looking at taking my programming experience to a new level, and exploring my options - such as Python, possibly Javascript - combination of both perhaps.

Whilst these is no single, definitive answer here, and it's also subjective, I want to put out a question as to the general capability of Python.
I'd like to continue developing software that will involve a database backend ("SQL-ish" or similar), a desire to utilise the lower level functions of mobile devices (GPS location etc., that is sometimes out of reach of some development platforms), be able to create the GUI tools for mobile, web, and desktop, and also be able to publish apps on the app stores (Apple and Android) if possible.

I realise there will be a number of tools involved here, and most I will not have used, but I am very keen to learn what tools and platforms are required to move forward.

I'm open to suggestion and happy to pay for all software and courses needed. I'd love to hear your feedback please - even if if just a short paragraph of product names to get me started. (I work on a Mac - if that makes a difference).

Many thanks in advance.

Java which has been around since 1995 does all or most of the devices and it runs on the SDK or ME and EE edition of the software development kit from Oracle Corporation. The latest version is 2023 Java SE edition. But the most preferred or popular people use on pc or any platform which you have is Java 8 SE. But they do all the application for Android as well as iPhones. Connected to your wi-Fi setup. And they'r pretty good too. Software kits from Java are extensive but free to use and download. Open end source code on most softwares.
Programs are like instructions or rules. Learning it gets us closer to a solution. Desired outcome. Computer talk.

Hi Tim.

Thankyou for replying. To be quite honest, I have always felt (and I've been wrong many times before :) ) that Java was heavy, clunky and a dying breed, so I never gave it much thought as an option to move foreard on. bAsed on your reply, I will certainly read through the documentation and see if it could work for me.

Thanks,
Greg
